I Try, I Really Do: Psyopus' Odd Senses
Every now and again I try to give an album I didn’t like the first time around another chance. This time it’s Psyopus’s Odd Senses. I get two songs in to it and I have to stop it. The first two tracks are listenable but once I get to the third track it just becomes an annoyance. It’s not that “I don’t get it” or that I don’t understand music theory enough to understand it, I just don’t fuckin like it! The guitar just starts to get to me when it begins to sound a little too much like cacophonous fretboard wankery. When the sound begins to take form as repetitive squealing slides and arpeggio hammer-ons, then it just begins to get on my nerves and I have to put on something a little more rhythmical to ease my nerves, like Obituary’s Slowly We Rot. I’m not taking a pot-shot at the band or Chris Arp, I’m just saying that I can’t do the Psyopus thing. I’ve tried about three times now and I just can’t do it.
There are fans of Psyopus that love them and then there are people that don’t. I don’t and I’m not going to pretend I do just so I can sound like some uber-intelligent douche-fuck that thinks he’s better or smarter than other metal fans because he/she listens to this shit. That’s like the Whitechapel fanboys thinking they are so BrOOTal (did I spell that right? Probably not.)

boy am i in a commenting mood. burning halo is the one song too listen to off the album. idk how far into the al;bum it is if youve only listened in order
The Burning Halo is the third track and one of the more tolerable songs. It starts to annoy me when the 4th track, Duct Tape Smile starts to play. Everything after that just doesn’t do it for me.
