Rockstar Mayhem Fest Wraps Up. Sends message To Fans

Mayhem fest

I couldn’t make it to this years Mayhem fest, even though I really wanted to. I’m sure everyone that attended had a great time. I’ve seen most of the bands that were on the roster at least once but it would have been nice to see Slayer again. Every year I imagine it will get progressively better and I can’t wait to see what next year brings. Here is a message from the people that brought it to you. Read the rest of this entry »

Lamb of God, Gwar And Job For A Cowboy Tour The U.S.

gwar

News I kind of knew already but only had two know dates for. Lamb Of God along with fellow Virginians, Gwar are touring the U.S. with Job For A Cowboy opening. I’ll be hitting the October 21st show and interviewing Gwar and hope to shot some killer photos! I missed my Gwar interview back when they were in the state with Cattle Decapitation. This time around it won’t be missed, especially with Lamb of God headlining. I’m still not all that fond of Wrath but I’m not going to miss the show because L.O.G never comes around here. If this tour comes near you, hit it up and bring your game-face to the pit! Don;t forget to check out Gwar’s Lust In Space next week. Tour dates after the fold. Read the rest of this entry »

1st Annual VA Deathfest Coverage

We went up to Danville Virginia this Saturday to check out the VA Death Fest at the Plan B. First I have to say that this was one of the worst venues I have ever been in. There were no windows, and when I say no windows I mean that there were holes for windows, just no glass. There were bars and screens. No A/C, just fans blowing around hot air. I can’t even imagine how hot it was on stage under the lights. There was no alcohol being served but maybe because it was an all ages show. Maybe it was because this place couldn’t afford a liqueur license, I don’t know. A few cold beers would have made it a bit cooler though. There was plenty of floor space and one corner was reserved as the smoking area even though I don’t think it made shit of a difference. A couple of bands didn’t show or showed late. Cover was 10 bucks and if you went to check out some underground death metal, then it was well worth it. Let’s get on to the bands.

D.R.I. Is Back And Touring

dri-logoLegendary Hardcore punk/Thrash crossover pioneers D.R.I. are hitting the road again with a handful of confirmed dates. After a hiatus, Spike Cassidy, one of two remaining founding members is returning to the stage after surgery to remove cancer from his colon 3 years ago. It’s said that he’s on the path to a full recovery and that he is cancer free as of last year. The only other original member is Kurt Brecht, the vocalist. Having not made an album since 1995’s Full Speed Ahead, the band still tours when they can. I would love to see them hit my area, but it looks as if North Carolin is getting skipped. If these old bastards are coming to your town, GO! [dates after the fold] Read the rest of this entry »

Planet Caravan Showcases Underground And Up And Comers

Planet Caravan September 18th/19th Ashville, NC

Planet Caravan September 18th/19th Ashville, NC

So Atlanta Georgia had the Scion Rock Fest in February and it was a big hit. Thankfully, NC is showcasing their own show in Asheville at the Orange peel. Planet Caravan is featuring some great bands to include Clutch (headlining), Kylesa, Pentagram, Zoroaster, NC’s own Sourvein and many more. The full list is below. If you live in or near the area, come on out to The Orange Peel in Asheville and catch the show. One of my new favorite bands which doesn’t really fall in to the metal category, Astra, will be there too. Unlike Scion Rock Fest, Planet Caravan is NOT free. Hell, it’s not even close to being free. Tickets are $79.50 (Plus applicable fees) and can be purchases HERE. The exact scheduled line-up is to be announce later and a second stage will be right next door to The Orange Peel at Mo Daddy’s.  I’m going to try very hard to make it out there for the two day event and shoot some pictures and maybe get some interviews. If you can’t read the flyer then check out the full line-up after the fold. Read the rest of this entry »

Dream Dead. It's Good For You…

Last night I had the pleasure of going to a Monstrosity headlined show. I only got to stick around for about 5 songs of Monstrosity but the entire show was great. Opening the show was Bloodsoaked along with Morose Vitality, Dreaming Dead and Torn The Fuck Apart. I’ve seen Bloodsoaked and Morose Vitality play once before. Bloodsoaked put on a cool show as usual. Morose Vitality sounds so much better in concert and their singer, Dave, said that they are planning a full production full length album to follow up their last album Black Dawn of A Dead Planet. Black Dawn was recorded live in studio and honestly it doesn’t sound all that great and they know it. Hopefully this time around they’ll be able to shine a little better.

The band I was rather surprised by and became an instant fan of was Dreaming Dead. Dreaming Dead consists of Elizabeth Elliot, who sings and plays lead guitar. You have Samantha Perez who play rhythm, Mike Caffell on drums and Juan Ramirez on bass. Dreaming Dead is one of those bands that would best be described as blackened death metal with some thrash overtones and a lot of melody. Elizabeth stands at about 4′11″ and plays the shit out of a nice Fernandes flying V similar to Mike Amott’s ESP Tyrant. She does a mixture of low and higer pitched vocals sort of like Angela Gassow. These guys put on a great show and if you get a chance, check out their new album Within One. The other bands were great too. I’ll have more on that soon, with pictures. until, check out the songs on their Myspace, particularly, Manslaughter.
