Anvil: Mediocre At Best

anvilmomWhen I watched Anvil: The Story Of Anvil, I was very sympathetic for the band. It showed middle aged men still pursuing their dream of making it big in rock. It showed the history of a band that just never quite made it…until now. The movie made you want them to get their big break. It showed what most bands go through on tour with shitty promoters, arguments and piss-poor show turnouts. You always want the underdog to win, right? But did they? Did Anvil finally get their big break?

Maybe their movie did. It’s done a lot for them, but it doesn’t change the fact that to me that they are just a mediocre band that has a few really good songs on two good albums but not enough to be called classics and definitely not enough good albums to be rated with bands of their era that made it big. Feed Through The Teeth Machine

Fed Through The Teeth Machine

Another day down and we’re over half way through the week and that much closer to the weekend. I’ve made some plans, which is totally not like me. Not that I’m trying to sound cool by saying “I don’t make plans”, I just don’t normally make a lot of plans for the weekend. The podcast will still go up this weekend and don’t forget I’ll have the contest for the first 5 Children Of Bodom CDs in there.

  • “Axl Rosenberg” from Metalsucks went to see Alice In Chains last night and wrote a great piece about the show.I wish I could have made it to NYC for tonight’s show.
  • Anvil are releasing a re-recorded version of This Is Thirteen next Tuesday and they have made available the entire album for streaming at VH1.com.
  • Arsis have started the recording process of their next album. Something else to look forward to in the next 6 months or so.
  • The Red Chord have released the album art and tracklist to their next coming album, Fed Through the teeth Machine. You can check that stuff out and hear a new track called Demoralizer at The Red Chord’s Myspace.

I’m tired and lazy, so this is all you’re probably going to get from me tonight. Peace.

Only a few more days until I move out of farm country, thank goodness! This has been a hectic week packing and getting rid of shit that I wonder why the hell I was saving in the first place. Good news is that everything is set up for the move and if all goes well it should be fairly painless and I’ll be back up and running at normal speed by Monday evening. To wrap shit up until tomorrow and report on significant metal news, here is the latest scrap metal report.

  • Apparently Machine Head’s Phil Demmel really needs to take a break and take it easy. He collapsed once again this passed week at Sonisfeaer in Finland.
  • It’s also apparent that Roadrunner Records will sign just about anybody these days. Tommy Lee‘s Methods Of Mayhem are their newest addition. WTF?
  • Dave Mustaine needs to have a “quick” surgery done on his neck. He says it should be a brief procedure that shouldn’t side-line him very long. Dave is a trooper and I’m sure it’s not going to stop him from touring very long, especially with the upcoming release of Endgame.
  • BDM Deflorate

    BDM Deflorate

The Black Dahlia Murder have released the artwork to their upcoming album Deflorate. It’s not the best picture, but it gives you the basic feel. It’s a little different from past BDM album covers, but I don’t care as long as the album sounds good.

  • Love a band but hate most of the other fans of said band? I hear you and so does Metalsucks.net.

  • Album titles revealed: So far in the passed 4 days we’re learning that 4 bands with upcoming albums have revealed the titles. Megadeth have revealed Endgame as the title to the new album. Slayer have chosen a rather strange title in World Painted Blood. I’m a bit confused by this title as I think it rolls off the tongue a little better as Blood Painted World, but that’s just me. Shadows Fall have gone with Retribution for their next one and Hatebreed is rumored to be going with a self-titled thing.
  • cliffbookMetallica is releasing the first ever Cliff Burton Biography, “To Live Is To Die”. Should be an interesting read. You can pick it up at their official web store for $19.99.
  • Anvil will be releasing a soundtrack to their movie “Anvil! The Story Of Anvil“. It will be available in North American and Japan and will contain re-recorded versions of Anvil classics.
  • In Flames and Killswitch Engage will be co-headlining a handful of shows with Between The Buried And Me and Protest The Hero in Canada
