Bloodsoaked: Unborn Horror Video
I think you can get the basics of this video for Bloodsoaked‘s Unborn Horror, the third song to be made in to a video from Sadistic Deeds…Grotesque Memories. You have two zombies and a sniper with one round left and he doesn’t want to waste it on just one of them. He wants to go for “One shot, two kills” like in the original Sniper movie with Tom Berenger and Billy Zane. In the meantime you have the “One man killing machine” playing one of many great songs from the album. After the fold you can also check out the videos for “Suicide” and “Rotting In Filth“.

The Most Disorganized Hooked! Podcast Yet
Completely unprepared with stuttering and stammering galore. This alcohol free podcast had me stumbling over words more than any of my previous podcast. However there is a pretty good play list for your listening pleasure. So kick back, try to bear with my Gump ass and listen to some tunes by Slayer, Danzig, Bloodsoaked, MD. 45 and Dark Tranquility.
Next week I’ll be back in form, with beer in hand and a bunch of thrash metal for you. The week following will be a death metal podcast, which should be fun. Playlist and podcast after the fold. Read the rest of this entry »
1st Annual VA Deathfest Coverage
We went up to Danville Virginia this Saturday to check out the VA Death Fest at the Plan B. First I have to say that this was one of the worst venues I have ever been in. There were no windows, and when I say no windows I mean that there were holes for windows, just no glass. There were bars and screens. No A/C, just fans blowing around hot air. I can’t even imagine how hot it was on stage under the lights. There was no alcohol being served but maybe because it was an all ages show. Maybe it was because this place couldn’t afford a liqueur license, I don’t know. A few cold beers would have made it a bit cooler though. There was plenty of floor space and one corner was reserved as the smoking area even though I don’t think it made shit of a difference. A couple of bands didn’t show or showed late. Cover was 10 bucks and if you went to check out some underground death metal, then it was well worth it. Let’s get on to the bands.

Dream Dead. It's Good For You…
Last night I had the pleasure of going to a Monstrosity headlined show. I only got to stick around for about 5 songs of Monstrosity but the entire show was great. Opening the show was Bloodsoaked along with Morose Vitality, Dreaming Dead and Torn The Fuck Apart. I’ve seen Bloodsoaked and Morose Vitality play once before. Bloodsoaked put on a cool show as usual. Morose Vitality sounds so much better in concert and their singer, Dave, said that they are planning a full production full length album to follow up their last album Black Dawn of A Dead Planet. Black Dawn was recorded live in studio and honestly it doesn’t sound all that great and they know it. Hopefully this time around they’ll be able to shine a little better.
The band I was rather surprised by and became an instant fan of was Dreaming Dead. Dreaming Dead consists of Elizabeth Elliot, who sings and plays lead guitar. You have Samantha Perez who play rhythm, Mike Caffell on drums and Juan Ramirez on bass. Dreaming Dead is one of those bands that would best be described as blackened death metal with some thrash overtones and a lot of melody. Elizabeth stands at about 4’11″ and plays the shit out of a nice Fernandes flying V similar to Mike Amott’s ESP Tyrant. She does a mixture of low and higer pitched vocals sort of like Angela Gassow. These guys put on a great show and if you get a chance, check out their new album Within One. The other bands were great too. I’ll have more on that soon, with pictures. until, check out the songs on their Myspace, particularly, Manslaughter.
Bloodsoaked: Sadistic Deeds…Grotesque Memories Review and Rotting In Filth Video

Sadistic Deeds...Grotesque Memories
You’ve heard me talk about Bloodsoaked before. Peter Hasselbrack, the “One Man Killing Machine” from NC and the band concept that most people would frown upon or consider rather strange or maybe even stupid. I must admit; when I first heard of Bloodsoaked and a one-man act I thought it was rather crazy. Who get’s up on stage by themselves and plays death metal? That’s usually reserved for acoustic musicians, right?
Peter wanted to make and perform death metal and he wasn’t going to let the usual complications of holding together a band stop him. With his drums programmed and ready to play, he get’s up on stage and bludgeons out a set like it’s nothing. If you really think about it, this makes just about all the difficulties of a band rather non-existent. On tour there isn’t anyone to keep track of, no extra mouths to feed, bed’s to share and pockets to pay. You don’t have to worry about your guitar player getting too shit-faced to play or your drummer missing a beat. The only thing that is rather different during his live show is that you don’t have the typical energy of a normal band on stage. I’m not saying that Peter get’s up there in a lazy and/or lethargic way. He gets up there and plays hard and heavy just like any other band…except that it’s just him. You may also think “How much touring does a one-man-show really do?”. Actually, Bloodsoaked get’s around like a catholic school girl. If you visit Bloodsoaked’s Myspace, you will see that there are quite a few shows lined up. Read the rest of this entry »
The Scrap Metal Report 6/30/09

Well, Hook In Mouth has been going just over a month now and things are doing as well as a new blog could be. I still have some loyal readers and few readers turned contributors, which is really cool and I’m happy with that. Besides that, it’s the same metal world it was 2 months ago. This Thursday I’ll be going to a Monstrosity show. In case you’re not familiar with Monstrosity, they are like the Arsis of death metal. This band has seen quite a few line-up changes in the last 20 years. They’ll be headlining with Thornafire, Torn The Fuck Apart and locals Morose Vitality and Bloodsoaked. I’ll be shooting some video and taking some pictures (Of Bloodsoaked, Morose Vitality and maybe more), so I’ll get those posted over the coming weekend.
Moving on. I would like to think that I’m above this next bit…but I’m not. They said Michael Jackson’s cause of death was actually food poisoning…from eating 8 year old weiners. They also said that they have made a decision on what they will do with his remains and since he was 98% plastic, they will melt him down and make him in to Legos…so little kids can play with him for a change. Now that the tasteless, yet funny jokes are over let’s move on to some metal news… Read the rest of this entry »
Fatal: "Metal Is The Law!"
You know what I really love about thrash metal? Lyrically, the bands don’t beat around the bush and make you think too hard. They just write balls-out metal that’s easy to headbang to and enjoy. With all the newer thrash bands bringing the old sound back and the old school thrash bands that are still touring, it’s reminded me why I fell in love with metal in the first place.
Last night I had the pleasure and privilege to check out 4 bands I had never heard or seen before for $6.00. Checking out the Volume 11 calendar I saw this show and my friend Martin and I decided to check it out. It was only $6.00 so we figured why not? So we get there and there is no line and no one waiting outside the venue. We go inside and it’s empty. Of course it’s a Thursday night and it was only 8 o’clock, so we figured more would show. Yeah, about 5 others showed up. I killed some time by talking to Peter from Bloodsoaked, “The One Man Killing Machine” who is the sole member of his death metal band. He plays a D-tuned LTD with recorded drum tracks that he plays through the P/A on his iPod. I also talked with the lead guitar player from the opening band, Fatal.
