Hooked! Thrash Metal Edition Podcast
So, here it is, the Hooked! Thrash Metal Edition of the Hook In Mouth Podcast. Again, I’m all over the place between songs. I tried to minimize the “uhs’ and Ums” but shit, I can’t help it I guess. Also I’m a little stuffed up from allergies right now so I sound like a little kid.
Below is the track list of the songs and bands I played. Stay tuned in a couple of weeks for more thrash metal. I love it and it it’s timeless. That’s why there are so many thrash metal bands still out there. Not because it’s trendy but because thrash metal kicks ass like no other. This edition ran about an hour and 30 minutes [63.4 mb]. the Megadeth sample levels (from Amazon.de) are kind of loud but you get the point.
If you enjoyed the bands in this podcast, please buy the albums and go to their shows if they come to your local venues. Support the bands’; otherwise you’ll just have to listen to the garbage force-fed to you by the radio waves. Read the rest of this entry »
Scrap Metal Report 6/26/09
My apologies for no postings last night. I was far too broken up over Michael Jackson’s death to blog, so I took a day of mourning. Actually I found out yesterday while I was at work very late and it didn’t even phase me. The bad thing about celebrities dying is that their dead asses get kissed more in death than they did in life. I mean, how many people ridiculed and criticized this dude while he was alive? How many people made fun of him, imitated him and called him a pedophile, fag or homo? COUNTLESS, that’s how many. Now each and every one of those people is trying to get their lips under the sheet and on his ass-cheeks that are now resting on a cold slab of steel awaiting dissection. They will now call him an icon, an idol, an influence, etc., etc, but a few years ago nobody wanted to be associated with him when he was on trial for alleged child molestation. Go fuck yourself, world. I hope when I die people tell it like it is. If I was an asshole and I mistreated them for whatever reason, then I hope they speak up and say “I’m glad that fuckers dead!”. All I’m saying is that people are far too fake in this world and they’ll tell more lies to make themselves feel better for the lies they told already.
All Bullshit aside, it’s the weekend, I’ve got some beers to drink tonight and then I’m heading out tomorrow to see Goatwhore, Daath, Abigail Williams, S.W.W.A.A.T.S. and another band that I can’t remember on the Conquer And Curse tour. So let’s catch up on some metal news. Read the rest of this entry »
Early Man's Mike Conte Tells Radio Stations: "Pay Up, Assholes"
Let’s not worry so much about the labels as we should about the band. EarlyMan’s Mike Conte recently commented on the bands blog WhiplashWhiplashWhiplash about how bands and their labels often get dicked out of royalties for bits and pieces of their songs used in advertisements. He mentions an article in the NY Times about Record Labels and bands wanting royalties for songs played publicly. Can’t blame the man for wanting to eat.

Conte says, “Why shouldn’t we get paid?”, arguing that as musicians that often don’t get paid their worth, are shafted by radio stations, especially when it comes to using bits and pieces of their songs for advertisements called “Bumpers”. Here is a bit of the article from NY Times.
Last month in Washington, the House Judiciary Committee approved a bill, sponsored by Representative John Conyers Jr., a Democrat from Michigan, that would require U.S. radio stations to start paying royalties to record companies and artists when they play their music over the airwaves.
Dennis Wharton (No relation to myself) a spokesperson for the National Association of Broadcasters added, “It’s going to be a nasty, ongoing fight,” said Dennis Wharton, a spokesman for the National Association of Broadcasters. “The record labels are just trying to make up for their struggling business model. It’s not radio’s fault that they’ve had a couple of down years.” and also said, “Record companies and musicians ought to be grateful for free air play, because it generates sales,” Read the rest of this entry »
