Those Damn Argentinians Love Megadeth

They love most metal that graces their stadiums and venues. It’s never a crowd of people down there; it’s a fucking SEA of people. Why are south and Central american tours seem so short with a lot less dates than a North American tour? Because they easily fill stadiums on South and Central America when metal bands tour down there. They don’t need to tour every mid-sized venue to draw people in like in the states. I this semi-decent quality video, you can hear their usual chant of “Megadeth, Megadeth, agunate Megadeth” during Symphony Of Destruction. Basically I think aguante loosely translates to “endure” or perhaps in the sense that it is used, it may mean something “Long Live Megadeth”. I really don’t know, but if any Spanish speaking readers out there can help with the translation, please do. On a side note, Dave’s voice kind of sound like doo-doo in the chorus.

Megadeth: The Right To Go Insane Video

In 1995 Americans watched in horror as Army Veteran Shawn Nelson stole an M60 Patton tank from a San Diego California National Guard armory (which was unsecured) and went on a rampage down the streets of San Diego, before finally getting stuck on the medium barrier and being killed by police. Shawn Nelson had various personal problems to include medical problems that led to his plumbing business going under along with his equipment being stolen. Other personal problems he had were failed lawsuits, drug addiction, a divorce in 1991, both parents dying of cancer in 1992, foreclosure pending on his home and the drug overdose death of his live-in girlfriend the month prior. On May 17th, 1995 Nelson snapped.

Megadeth‘s new video for The Right To Go Insane (which originally premiered on Noisecreep) portray’s Dave Mustaine as Shawn Nelson and shows actual footage of the incident from almost 16 years ago. The song concept is simply stated in the lyrics of the song: How will I face the day tomorrow / If I can’t make it through today / I’ve got nothing left to lose but my sanity / And the right to go insane.

So, Who Wants To Know Why Suicide Silence Was Kicked Off Of The Endgame Tour

Suicide-SilenceWhat I want to know is why it didn’t happen sooner so I wouldn’t have to hear them play back in November? If you recall, right at the end of the Endgame tour, Suicide Silence had their laminats taken away by Dave Mustaine and they didn’t play the last show. Well here is the frontman’s explanation to the question asked by an Affliction interviewer who is also Ozzy’s bass player  (text from Blabbermouth):

“I think the whole situation was funny. It’s basic — [MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine] wanted our laminates back because we were getting people in, we were passing our laminates out. We were getting our friends in because we were only allowed, like, 10 people on the guest list. We were just doing that — getting people in — and he thought it was a risk to his dressing room, which it could have been; some superfan could have gone in there and done god knows what. And the situation went from that to him wanting our laminates back, and it was, like, the last day of tour. And we were just like, ‘You know what? I like this [grabbing his pass]. Sorry.’ And it turned out bad. But fuck it. It was still a fun tour.”

So, he was breaking the rules, hookin’ up his buddies, possibly creating potential problems and he thinks it was funny? Sounds to me like spoiled kids that don’t know how to follow simple rules when you are given the opportunity and privilege to tour with two amazing bands. We all know that Suicide Silence wasn’t chosen for the tour because of their talent. They were chosen because Dave is Business smart and he knows what sells tickets. I don’t think that was very fair to the rest of us, but oh well. You can watch the video of the interview below. Read the rest of this entry »

New Dave Mustaine Signature Dean Guitars

I you followed the NAMM coverage this passed weekend then you probably saw the debut of Dave Mustaine‘s new signature guitar, the Dean Zero, if you had not already seen it earlier. It’s simply an improved Dean Z with Mustaine’s personal touches on it to make it work for him. There is a sliver production model and a distressed cream colored limited production model. Also, to add to Dave’s VMNT series is a new Endgame VMNT. The brightly colored graphics based around the album cover of Endgame really bring this guitar alive and gets you attention. I have not seen any of these guitars on retail dealer sites yet, but I’ll keep an eye out for the prices. All three guitars with specs can be seen in this PDF file. Here are a few photos from Dean’s website. (Click on the image for a larger view)

Dave Mustaine Gives You Something To Feel Good About

dave-mustaineRegardless of anything that may come out of Dave Mustaine‘s mouth that you may or may not disagree with, the man has a huge heart. He also gives thanks to everyone that supported the Endgame tour and album thus far. If you bought the album or came out to an Endgame show, then you may have just helped support Dave in donating toys this Christmas to the San Diego Children’s Hospital and various other places. Check out this letter of thanks from the Megadeth Forums. Read the rest of this entry »

Scrap Metal Report 12/16/09

new-scrap-metal

It’s been a hectic week and I haven’t had time to do any updates. In case you missed some of the news this week, here is a break down of some of the things that have transpired in the the world of metal this week.

  • Evile have announced that they have found a new bass player after the tragic death of Mike Alexander. The new bass player has been announced as Joel Graham. Here is a quote from the band:

He’s an excellent, experienced bass player, and a really nice guy. We’d all appreciate it if you gave him a warm welcome to the band, as this must be a bizarre situation for him to be in also. We’ll be getting some photos taken with him soon so you can see us with Joel, we just wanted to get the news out there that we have a new bassist, and that we thank each and every person for auditioning. Mike would be honoured at the amount of respect and admiration you expressed to us through contacting us.”

  • The “Big Four” (Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeth and Slayer) will NOT be touring per se, but will share the stage at Switzerland’s Sonisphere next summer. If you have the means, witness history.
  • Diamond Head are releasing an autobiography titled “Am I Evil” and can be purchased for a limited run of 500 at Diamond-head.net.
  • Slipknot have filmed a video for the song “Snuff” from their 2008 release All Hope Is Gone. The video is actually a short film directed by Shawn Crahan and can be viewed on Youtube. On a side note, Snuff is one of my favorites off of All Hope Is Gone and I’m still hoping that Corey does a solo album of acoustic stuff in the future.
  • Suicide Silence were booted from the Megadeth Endgame tour just two dates short of it’s end. No solid official details yet, but word has it that Dave Mustaine kicked them off and revoked their laminates for an incident that happened earlier in the tour. A statement from Suicide Silence will come later.
  • Brain Drill have finished up recording the follow up to 2008′s Apocalyptic Feasting. You can listen to one of the new tracks called “Monumental Failure” on their Myspace.
  • Whitechapel have entered the studio and will start recording the follow up to 2008′s This Is Exile. This time around Jason Seucof will be taking the reigns of producer.

In local news, I have had contact with a sponsor and I will be posting a banner pretty soon and introducing some of their products. I’ll have more on that real soon.

Megadeth Planning Another Pacific Rim-Job

Megadeth have already started planning for the continuation of their Endgame tour with upcoming dates for Europe, South American and the Pacific Rim, following their American Carnage tour this January and February. Here is an excerpt from Dave Mustaine The Megadeth forums. He’s even got his own cool little emoticon.

“We were able to start planning our tour dates for 2010 and we will be announcing our next South American, European, and Pacific Rim dates in the near future. At the very least in the next week, or so.”mustaine

“Please stay tuned, and check back over the next few days, because we are sure to have some great news for you!”
