Scrap Metal Report 12/16/09
It’s been a hectic week and I haven’t had time to do any updates. In case you missed some of the news this week, here is a break down of some of the things that have transpired in the the world of metal this week.
- Evile have announced that they have found a new bass player after the tragic death of Mike Alexander. The new bass player has been announced as Joel Graham. Here is a quote from the band:
He’s an excellent, experienced bass player, and a really nice guy. We’d all appreciate it if you gave him a warm welcome to the band, as this must be a bizarre situation for him to be in also. We’ll be getting some photos taken with him soon so you can see us with Joel, we just wanted to get the news out there that we have a new bassist, and that we thank each and every person for auditioning. Mike would be honoured at the amount of respect and admiration you expressed to us through contacting us.”
- The “Big Four” (Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeth and Slayer) will NOT be touring per se, but will share the stage at Switzerland’s Sonisphere next summer. If you have the means, witness history.
- Diamond Head are releasing an autobiography titled “Am I Evil” and can be purchased for a limited run of 500 at Diamond-head.net.
- Slipknot have filmed a video for the song “Snuff” from their 2008 release All Hope Is Gone. The video is actually a short film directed by Shawn Crahan and can be viewed on Youtube. On a side note, Snuff is one of my favorites off of All Hope Is Gone and I’m still hoping that Corey does a solo album of acoustic stuff in the future.
- Suicide Silence were booted from the Megadeth Endgame tour just two dates short of it’s end. No solid official details yet, but word has it that Dave Mustaine kicked them off and revoked their laminates for an incident that happened earlier in the tour. A statement from Suicide Silence will come later.
- Brain Drill have finished up recording the follow up to 2008’s Apocalyptic Feasting. You can listen to one of the new tracks called “Monumental Failure” on their Myspace.
- Whitechapel have entered the studio and will start recording the follow up to 2008’s This Is Exile. This time around Jason Seucof will be taking the reigns of producer.
In local news, I have had contact with a sponsor and I will be posting a banner pretty soon and introducing some of their products. I’ll have more on that real soon.
Evile Recording Cover of Cemetery Gates
After watching this video, I have a lot of confidence in the end product of Evile’s cover of Pantera’s Cemetery Gates on the upcoming Dimebag Tribute. Check it out and I think you will be pleased as well.

Evile Bass Player Passes Away Unexpectadly
With their recent release of Evile’s Infected Nations album on Earache came the beginning of a European tour with Amon Amart. Things seemed to be finally moving along well for this band of thrashers that don’t nearly get the attention they deserve…and then this happens. It’s not the fact that the band lost a member, but the band lost a friend and a family lost a big part of their lives. It’s not important what exactly caused Mike’s passing right now, but to pay respects. Evile have released the following statement in regards to Mike Alexander’s passing. Read the rest of this entry »
Evile Infected Nation Video
UK’s Evile are ready to release their latest album Infected Nation. I thought I already posted this video when I saw it a week ago but apparently I dropped the ball after checking out the press release this morning. Infected Nation comes out on September 22nd. Also worth checking out is their last album, 2007’s Enter the Grave.
Recommended Listens
Slow news week and I’ve been busy trying to put together a drum set and learning how to play a few beats here and there. In the mean time I have a few bands that I recommend you guys give a listen to.
- Asphyx: Death…The Brutal Way. Came out today. Bottom line, it kills. Good old fashioned death metal at it’s best.
- Astra: The Wierding. This is a little out of the metal stream, but it’s really cool psychedelic proggy rock.
- Brain Drill: Apocalyptic Feasting. This has been out since last year and I just recently got around to listening to it. Good tech/death metal.
- Evile: Enter The Grave. Sounds kind of like old Slayer thrash metal. This is their last album and they have a new one coming soon.
- Bison B.C.: Quiet Earth. Again, reaching back in to last year, Bison B.C. bring the noise. Nothing too complicated here, just heavy as fuck and fun to listen to. If you dig Mastodon, Torche, The Sword and/or Kylesa then you will love Bison B.C.
- Blood Red Throne: Souls of Damnation. Norwegian death metal. Enough said.
- Children: Hard Times hanging At the End of the World. More psychedelic stoner metal that is actually cool. Alex did a review of Hard Times Hanging.
- Church of Misery: Houses Of The Unholy. Japanese Psychedelic Doom. Just trust me on this one.
- Destroyer 666: Defiance. Turn it up and thrash your ballzoff!
- Eryn Non Dae: Hydra Lernaia. This band will probably go mostly un-noticed, perhaps because they may be dismissed as a Meshuggah knock-off, but the music is really cool. Worth a listen.
Not-Recommended:
Flatline: Pave the Way. Unless you’re in to generic sounding metal that sounds like they’re ripping off Metallica riffs [and not even good ones] while all the drum patterns sound alike, then I would avoid Flatline.
