First Thoughts: Killswitch Engage, Suffocation, Firebird, And Others
Here are some fairly quick first thoughts on a few albums I’ve been meaning to review. In fact for some of them, this is the only review you’ll get. I know, I’m a lazy bastard.
- I have listened to the new Killswitch Engage album and I gotta say that I’m diggin it. The singles they released were a little difficult for me to listen to at first but the rest of the album is a solid KSE album. There may be a few things that come off a little different than the last couple of albums, but all-in-all it’s pretty solid and very listenable. If you didn’t like what Brendan O’Brien did with Mastodon’s latest then you might not like this one.
- Suffocation’s Blood Oath: This album is taking a little time to grow on me. Remember when Morbid Angel’s Covenant came out and it sounded kind of different than Altars and Blessed? It seemed like it was a little slower, yet just as brutally awesome as the two previous albums? That’s the way Blood Oath feels. It’s heavy yet it seems a little slower than anything before it. Best death metal album of 2009? I don’t know…but I don’t feel that way just yet.
