Hooked! First Hook In Mouth Podcast
Alright. here is my first Podcast for Hook In Mouth. As you’ll hear I’m all over the place on this one. Again, it’s my first. I played a few songs from Asphyx, Ravage, Gwar, Malebolgia, Pantera and Celtic Frost. I hope you enjoy it and next week should be better now that I have gotten things kind of down and can tweak things here and there, especially the sound. Let me know what you thin and what I can improve on. If you want less talk and more music, by all means, just say the word. That’s easy for me. Thanks.

1st Annual VA Deathfest Coverage
We went up to Danville Virginia this Saturday to check out the VA Death Fest at the Plan B. First I have to say that this was one of the worst venues I have ever been in. There were no windows, and when I say no windows I mean that there were holes for windows, just no glass. There were bars and screens. No A/C, just fans blowing around hot air. I can’t even imagine how hot it was on stage under the lights. There was no alcohol being served but maybe because it was an all ages show. Maybe it was because this place couldn’t afford a liqueur license, I don’t know. A few cold beers would have made it a bit cooler though. There was plenty of floor space and one corner was reserved as the smoking area even though I don’t think it made shit of a difference. A couple of bands didn’t show or showed late. Cover was 10 bucks and if you went to check out some underground death metal, then it was well worth it. Let’s get on to the bands.

Malebolgia Perform Degrading Succession Live At VA Deathfest 2009
Here is some video I shot last night at the VA Deathfest in Danville, VA. The video actually came out a lot better but I love quite a bit of quality when I format and upload to Youtube. Something I need to work on. Anyway, here they are with rhythm guitarist Joespeh Darling handling the vocals because their vocalist couldn’t make it due to unforseen circumstances. I’ll have more about the Deathfest as well as more video and pictures later on.

Malebolgia – Degrading Succession

Malebolgia
Back in my post about 10 Bands/Albums You Need To Hear But Probably Haven’t, I mentioned the North Carolina Death/Grind band Malebolgia. Just to give you a taste of what they have to offer in speed, grind, gore and ferocity, below is a Youtube still-video of the opening track from their album Requiem For the Inexorable. The track is called Degrading Succession and the opening double bass and lead is pretty sick. You can download the song Veiled Impurity from Requiem For The Inexorable from their record label, Comatose Records, who specialize in extreme metal of the “brutal death metal” nature. Stream Degrading Succession after the fold. Read the rest of this entry »
10 Bands/Albums You Need To Hear But Probably Haven't

Malebolgia - Requiem For The Inexorable
Here is a short list of bands that you may or may not have heard or heard of. They aren’t exactly paddlin’ up the main stream of metal but they’re making waves in the wading pool and are very worthy of hearing and giving praise for their music or latest albums. I’ve provided links to their Myspace or official home page.
- Malefice: Dawn Of Reprisal (Awesome British thrash/death/prog metal on Metal Blade)
- Malebolgia: Requiem For the Inexorable (NC Death Grind band on Comatose Records)
- Ignominious Incarceration – Of Winter Born (Seriously awesome tech-death metal on Earache)
- Hemoptysis – Who Needs A Shepard Ep (Arizona death/thrash)
- Insect Warfare – Worldwide Extermination (Dirty, gritty grindcore)
- Absolute Vengeance (Northern VA unsigned metal band) Read the rest of this entry »
