Arch Enemy Rips Off Megadeth…Again.

This morning I was listening to the new Arch Enemy Re-recordings on The Root Of All Evil. I was digging the first song, Beast Of Man, when I suddenly hear this solo that sounds so familiar. I just knew that I had heard the almost exact same solo on a Megadeth record and it only took me a few nano-seconds to know that it came off of Hangar 18. Check out the video I made and you’ll see.

I’m pretty sure that I’m probably not the first person to recognize this but it seems almost spot on to NOT recognize it, especially if you’re a Megadeth fan. This isn’t the first time that Arch Enemy has been [informally]accused of ripping off Megadeth. Their song Burning Angel from 2001’s Wage of Sin starts off sounding like Hangar 18 too. You can check that out HERE. There are some other songs that people have said have bits and pieces that sound like Megadeth as well.

I know some bands may “borrow” riffs and influences from other bands and Jimmy Page stole a bunch of shit from old blues guitarist, but this solo in Beast Of Man hides nothing. Hell, even the backing rhythm riff sounds close. What do you think?

My Top 10 Favorite Megadeth Songs (revised)

radiate1I was checking out a list on Whiplash of Early Man Mike Conte’s top 10 Best Metallica Songs. It’s a good list of old Metallica songs that I could agree with, but it’s hard to pick only ten songs from Metallica, even on their first three album. With the new Megadeth album coming some time this year, I’ve honestly been thinking about what top 10 songs would I pick from Megadeth. So… here goes; Read the rest of this entry »

Dave Mustaine Signature VMNT Rust In Peace Guitar

This was quite the coincidence. Last night I found that United Abominations guitar in a Guitar Center catalog and posted about it. This morning I got me “Megamail”, which is a Megadeth newsletter and it announced the Dean Dave Mustaine VMNT “Rust In Peace” model. This guitar is a bit more pricey at $1119 at Samash, but it’s much closer to what Dave actually plays. I like the graphics and the specs for this one a lot better than the UA guitar. I think a Killing Is My Business… (with original album art) VMNT would look pretty sick. Specs for the guitar are after the fold.

Good Videos Gone Bad Part 2

Megadeth’s Hangar 18. When I say “Good Videos Gone Bad“, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the video or song is bad. It only means that I found the video top be a humorous or cheesy interpretation of the song. Sometimes they’re meant to be cheesy and sometimes I don’t think the band realizes just how cheesed out the video is until it’s done and airs.

Megadeth is always on the chopping block again this time around with Hangar 18. With the shitty alien costumes and the government officials immediately approaching the aliens and carting them off by the arms is hilarious. General Vic does nothing but add a thick smell of “From-unda” to the mix. Just think how ridiculous the video would be if it wasn’t for such a killer song. Get the crackers and some wine.

Good Videos Gone Bad Part 1

Megadeth’s Holy Wars…The Punishment Due is an amazing song. The video is kind of a strange mix though. It has the political feel to it with video snippets of the middle east from the Gulf War era and whatnot, but then it has that cheesy Vic Rattlehead tank thing and then clips of the guys sky-diving. I never understood the skydiving part of the video, it just seems out of place. The other thing about this video is when they are playing in the warehouse…shirtless…all of them…in skinny pants. Skinny pants were cool for thrashers to wear back then as long as you had some cool Nike high-tops with the fat tongue. Regardless of the cheese factor of this video it still doesn’t come close to Hanger 18.

Shawn Drover: New Megadeth is "100% Metal"

I’m sure you all know that Megadeth is currently recording an album that, according to a message from Shawn Drover, the band’s current drummer, is going to be good.

“I will reveal nothing on the style of these new songs — just know that they are 100% HEAVY METAL.”

That’s some news I love hearing!

Shawn says that he’s heading home for the holidays, but before leaving they managed to get some demo quality tunes to take in over the break. Word has it that Mustaine will have a few finishing touches before post-production begins. Will it be done before ‘Deth hits the road with Judas Priest and Testament in February?

In any case, I personally hope this album turns out more like Killing is My Business…, So Far, So Good… So What? and Rust In Peace. With statements like this coming from the band, that’s not unachievable!
