Download New Stone Sour Track ‘Mission Statement’

These days I’m way over Stone Sour. Something about them has lost it’s luster. I’ve come to the conclusion that Corey Taylor has forgotten where Slipknot begins and Stone Sour ends. The song is alright, but I’ve come to the conclusion that the only Stone Sour songs I want to hear these days are the slower ones, like Zzyxx Rd, Through Glass and Bother. I guess I’ll have to wait to see if there will be any on Audio Secrecy. Until then you can download the new song, Mission Statement at StoneSour.com. You can listen to the song in the youtube player after the fold.

Slipknot Hold Unmasked Press Conference Concerning Paul Gray’s Death

Slipknot held a press conference concerning fellow band mate, Paul Gray‘s recent death. A recent autopsy revealed no evident cause of death; however, toxicology test and results results are pending.

Slipknot’s Paul Gray Found Dead

Slipknot bassist, Paul Gray was found dead earlier today. Seriously, what the fuck is going on this year? 2010 just hasn’t been a good year for heavy metal musicians. They say these things come in threes, but I really expected Bret Michaels to shit the bed before anyone else did. Love or hate them, Slipknot have suffered quite the loss here, as a fellow band mate and most of all as a friend. My condolences go out to Paul’s friends and family. Paul and his wife were expecting their first child this year. Here is [part of] the story from the DesMoines Register:

Urbandale police are investigating the death of the bass guitarist for Grammy award-winning Slipknot at a local hotel.

Paul Dedrick Gray, 38, of Johnston was found dead at approximately 10:50 a.m. today by an employee at TownePlace Suites, 8800 Northpark Drive, police said.

There was no evidence of foul play, police said, but the investigation is ongoing.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday. Toxicology tests will be done.

Corey Taylor…The Freak

I always noticed that Corey Taylor had a huge neck for a man his size, but I never really noticed how disproportionate his head and neck are to the rest of his body until today. Let me simply re-direct you to Spinelanguage to read Detruvian Man to understand what I’m talking about.

Slipknot Snuff Short Film/Video

Noisecreep.com premiered the video for Slipknot‘s 5th single, Snuff from All Hope Is Gone. To say the least, the short film, directed by Slipknot’s own Shawn Crahan, is very interesting to say the least. Noisecreep describes the video as follows:

Subtleties fill the film. The scenes unfold in apartment number 009. A skull sits next to a snow globe. Sun peaks through the apartment windows at different points, providing the concept of a time shift. It’s not clear if any of this particularly matters, but the sum of the parts seem to indicate that it does. A lot.

In the end, the short film for ‘Snuff’ provides a haunting look into the obsessed mind of a melancholy lover, heartbroken over a lost paramour. Perhaps we all live double lives in the end.

Scrap Metal Report 12/16/09

new-scrap-metal

It’s been a hectic week and I haven’t had time to do any updates. In case you missed some of the news this week, here is a break down of some of the things that have transpired in the the world of metal this week.

  • Evile have announced that they have found a new bass player after the tragic death of Mike Alexander. The new bass player has been announced as Joel Graham. Here is a quote from the band:

He’s an excellent, experienced bass player, and a really nice guy. We’d all appreciate it if you gave him a warm welcome to the band, as this must be a bizarre situation for him to be in also. We’ll be getting some photos taken with him soon so you can see us with Joel, we just wanted to get the news out there that we have a new bassist, and that we thank each and every person for auditioning. Mike would be honoured at the amount of respect and admiration you expressed to us through contacting us.”

  • The “Big Four” (Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeth and Slayer) will NOT be touring per se, but will share the stage at Switzerland’s Sonisphere next summer. If you have the means, witness history.
  • Diamond Head are releasing an autobiography titled “Am I Evil” and can be purchased for a limited run of 500 at Diamond-head.net.
  • Slipknot have filmed a video for the song “Snuff” from their 2008 release All Hope Is Gone. The video is actually a short film directed by Shawn Crahan and can be viewed on Youtube. On a side note, Snuff is one of my favorites off of All Hope Is Gone and I’m still hoping that Corey does a solo album of acoustic stuff in the future.
  • Suicide Silence were booted from the Megadeth Endgame tour just two dates short of it’s end. No solid official details yet, but word has it that Dave Mustaine kicked them off and revoked their laminates for an incident that happened earlier in the tour. A statement from Suicide Silence will come later.
  • Brain Drill have finished up recording the follow up to 2008′s Apocalyptic Feasting. You can listen to one of the new tracks called “Monumental Failure” on their Myspace.
  • Whitechapel have entered the studio and will start recording the follow up to 2008′s This Is Exile. This time around Jason Seucof will be taking the reigns of producer.

In local news, I have had contact with a sponsor and I will be posting a banner pretty soon and introducing some of their products. I’ll have more on that real soon.

Radio Disney Cover Slipknot's Wait And Bleed

Stolen from Metalsucks.net, This was too hilarious to NOT post the same day. Imagine if The Jonas Brothers covered Slipknot; this is what it would sound like. I don’t know who did this but they are genius! Now GET YOUR FUCKING HANDS IN THE FUCKING AIR!

So One Day Gene Simmons Says…

KISS Potato-Heads Coming Soon

KISS Potato-Heads Coming Soon

So one day Gene Simmons is getting is cock sucked by groupie number 46,239 and he thinks to himself…

“What if we opened a KISS store? Everything KISS and anything everyone would ever buy there would have my face on it. KISS underwear, kiss tampons and even KISS douche bottles and my tongue would be the nozzle. That would be great. It would be a great KISS empire and no one could stop us…er…me…er…us, whatever.”

So most of Gene’s dream came true. He didn’t actually open a department store franchise like Walmart, but he’s still trying. Seriously? Does there have to be everything KISS? It seems that when they started marketing of countless KISS merchandise that the music actually took a back seat and things seriously went to shit.

I understand that merch is a huge part of most band’s profit and that these days merch sales are a huge contribution to a bands touring profits. If they can’t make money off of CD’s, ticket sales and merch are the only thing they have going for them unless they get a cool endorsement. Read the rest of this entry »

What An Odd Combo

Here is an odd touring combination if you ask me. Slipknot touring with Coheed & Cambria (and Trivium). While the combination of Slipknot and Trivium doesn’t really surprise me, Coheed & Cambria is an odd band to throw in to that mix.
