Ibanez attended several schools that include San Rafel High School, Petaluma Senior High School, Santa Rosa Junior College. After completing his elementary education, he grabbed his Journalism degree from the University of Idaho in 1978.
Coming to his career, Ibanez began his career at KXTV in Sacramento. Following this, he went to join the KTVU Channel 2 as a news director.
